| Dear SPEP family, We’ll be celebrating the Lord’s Supper on January 3. The Apostle Paul taught that we should examine ourselves before coming to the Table. That was a good and loving thing for Paul to say. As you read his instructions in 1 Corinthians 11, you begin to understand his motives. Paul wanted believers to recognize what Christ accomplished on the Cross. Paul also wanted believers to be unified – to look out for each other. So as you prepare for this celebration, consider two things over the next week. First, what has Christ’s sacrifice accomplished for you? Consider your own sin and weakness when you do that, and rejoice that God forgave you because of the Cross. Second, what do Christ’s people mean to you? Consider how you might have broken unity with another believer, and ask God’s help to make things right. I believe this approach is a good way to apply Paul’s teaching. And remember, this is an opportunity for us to find help and comfort in our Savior, not beat ourselves up. One more suggestion: the Lord’s Supper can be traced back to the ancient Hebrew Passover. On January 3 Pastor Max will preach on the Passover from Exodus 12. Take a look at that passage as well. We look forward to celebrating with you soon. Happy New Year! For Christ, Brian LoPiccolo |
