Praise Adonai

...[T]hough he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Lord Jesus, though being in very nature God, when You came to redeem us You humbled Yourself and made Yourself nothing. Though You were rich, for our sakes You became poor, so that through Your poverty we might become rich. We confess how unlike You we are in our attitudes and actions. We strive for recognition from others, and become bitter if we do not get it. We attend to our own needs and concerns, yet fail to care for our brothers and sisters except when it serves our purposes. We have lived for ourselves, rather than for you, our Lord and our God. Having taken our cross and atoned for our sins, we ask that you forgive us our sins and renew our hearts. Grant us to realize that we only find true joy and gain our lives by giving ourselves in devotion to You. Work in us by the power of your Spirit so that we become more like You, and so bring glory to our Father in heaven. Amen.
Thanks be to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son. In Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten,
not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Who, for us and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father;
and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped
and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look
for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Today we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper (Communion). The Bread (our unleavened cracker is gluten-free) represents the Body of Jesus… and the wine
(in our case, grape juice) represents the blood of Christ, both “given for us” (Luke 22:19,20) to atone for our sins.
Indeed, the Apostle Paul tells us that “whenever we eat the bread and drink the cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death” (1 Corinthians 11:26).
Since the acts of eating the bread and drinking the cup are, in themselves, a profession of faith and trust in Christ’s atoning work on our behalf,
it only makes sense that communicants should be only those who are already trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation.
The Apostle Paul warns those who would approach the Lord’s Table with an unexamined heart:
“For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment upon himself.” (2 Corinthians 11:29).
For this reason, we ask that only those professing faith in Jesus Christ and united by membership in a Gospel-believing church partake of the sacrament today.
If you or your children have never been received into church membership by profession of faith in Jesus and feel that you are ready to make such a profession of faith, please contact the SPEP Office and we would love to facilitate such step with you.
Above all, we hope that you will experience the loving presence of Jesus here, with us, today!
The Prayer Team is available by the choir loft for those who would like prayer after the service.
