*Events (unless overwise stated) are for men 18 years old and older R12 is all about men connecting. While we love our children and want them to see men in action and be with us in “manly” gatherings, R12 Meatings will have real-life testimonies with some that should not be shared outside of R12. Our devotion time, where we will break into small groups, needs to allow men to speak freely, and not worry about whether something is age-appropriate.

Thank you for understanding.

Currently Scheduled Events:

October 21-22:
R12 Weekend Blast – Camp Hemlock in West VA. – $75.00 for food and lodging. Bring your own sheets/blankets/pillows. Arrive any time after 5:30 with the understanding that many, leaving after work might not get through traffic until late. Hot homemade soups/chile will be ready with fresh bread and salads up until 9pm. There is a rumor that there might be fresh baked cookies to make ice cream sandwiches with! Breakfast and lunch provided Saturday.

Bring guns and ammo for rifle, shotgun, and pistol ranges. Leave anytime Saturday before 8pm. If you do not have any guns, that is fine, there will be many to share! There is a 100-yard rifle range, a field for skeet shooting, and a pistol range. There will be instructors to teach gun safety and gun use, and for safety reasons, they will be obeyed! Many are very experienced and will share access to their weapons. Each person is responsible for their own ammunition.

Below, the most common ammunition options are provided so you can purchase in advance and guarantee compatibility with many of the guns other men may share with you. For those desiring links to inexpensive options that are available, we will be happy to direct you; however, we take no responsibility for what you purchase.

Pistol Range: .22 long rifle and 9mm
Rifle Range: .22 long rifle and/or .223 cartridges for AR-15’s
Skeet Shooting: Shotgun shells (12 Gauge 2-3/4" 1-1/8 oz #7-1/2 Shot or #8 shot)

For those not as interested in shooting, there is great hiking and biking, as well as many game opportunities.

Breakfast Meatings

There will be approximately one every three months (intentional misspelling).

At the breakfast, we enjoy well-prepared food, hear a testimony from a member of the church, and receive a devotion that leads each table of men to discuss prepared questions from the devotion. After some time, a leader, from the front of the room, will ask each table to have a representative share the thoughts from their table.

Someone will wrap up the discussion, then we will enjoy a session of praise music by the R12 Praise Team, after which there will be prayer partners available for
anyone who desires prayer.

Service Projects

We plan to schedule at least one workday each quarter, with an occasional emergency need happening when arises. We have many needs at our church for beautifying as well as single moms/widows, and/or our elderly – from carpentry to landscaping to automotive maintenance, etc.

Dinner Meatings

We hope to have at least one Dinner Meating or a Weekend event each year with a similar format as the Breakfast Meatings, but with a twist.

Fellowship Events:

Hopefully each month, but at least every other month, we will schedule events that may include a golf tournament, a fishing trip, going to a shooting range, a camping trip, a cycling event, a game night, boating, sporting events, concerts, etc.

At Thanksgiving, we hope to have our first annual Turkey Bowl. Fathers can bring their families to the field, TBD, 8am Thanksgiving Day to play flag football. There will be music, cheering, hot beverages, and a great time for all.

General Coordinator: John Bangs

Please feel free to connect with John to discuss any questions you may have in general about R12. [email protected]

Music Coordinator: Ben Broadwater

We enjoy talented musicians, leading us in mostly contemporary music balanced with some older hymns of the church. While the music level will not burst any eardrums, there will be a concert feel, so guys can sing out and not feel like everyone can hear them. Music is selected to raise our spirits towards heaven, encouraging men as they may be struggling with something or simply wanting to praise God for all that He is doing in their lives.

Devotions Coordinator: Ryan Mann

Our Meatings offer a devotion that is carefully chosen for each gathering to focus us as to who we are as men of the church. Men of SPEP will be selected for each event to guide in the devotions and offer testimonies.

Connection Coordinator: Page Hatcher

As Connection is a main theme, having brothers slip through the cracks is not acceptable. We will proactively follow up with brothers whom we may have missed or who requested prayer requests so we can see how they are doing.  We always follow up with new attendees and, for any one who desires, we will be happy to meet with them.

Fellowship Events Coordinator: Jim Gray

Each month we will have one or two fellowship events: fishing, golfing, boating, shooting, etc., in order to keep men connected in fun ways. When brothers have common interests and enjoy spending time together, small accountability groups can be formed.

Logistics Co- Coordinators: Josh Gordon

It is all in the planning! Our events calendar is coordinated with the church office, and every event requires volunteers to help set up/ tear down as well as make sure we have cooks! Logistics includes providing all necessary equipment for each event, furniture, A/V, etc.; it takes a team! Let us know if you would like to help!

Service Project Coordinator: Logan Sharp

After each R12 Meating, we desire to have service projects where men can participate. Working with various SPEP ministries – the Deacons, Women’s Advocates, DUO, and Oasis – we are able to identify needs where our men can work together, using our hands on cars, lawns, homes, or at the church, just to name a few. Learning the strengths and abilities of the men of our church allows us to work together to better serve the kingdom.

Our calendar of events lists when and where we will be next; however, with all that is going on, be sure to touch base with us so you don’t miss out! Bring friends!

God designed us with a need for fellowship, moving us from selfishness to selflessness. R12 is a place to connect men, leading to transformation through encouragement, friendship, and faith.

God is real, and we want to bring Him into the Monday-Saturday parts of our lives—growing as men of faith and followers of Jesus Christ.

Being called as brothers in Christ, we seek to serve God and others with our time, talents, and treasures…where we live, work, and play.

R12 is taken from Romans 12:1,2…

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies (lives) as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

As men, we are all in different seasons of our lives:

  • Some fresh out of college
  • Some recently married
  • Some with children and all that it entails
  • Some having lost a job, home, health, marriage, loved ones, etc.
  • Some are empty nesters, seeking what is next
  • Some are retired and dealing with a whole different level of issues and concerns
  • Insert your life situations ….

While we are all on different paths, Christ has called us together as brothers to come and follow Him.

We are leading men to refuge in Christ through Christ-centered relationships. We will accomplish this through events designed to create, capture, and sustain spiritual momentum in the lives of our men:

  • Testimonies from our brothers, sharing how God has changed their lives.
  • Devotions that will lead us into small group discussions – learning and sharing with one another.
  • Worshiping God together in song, lead by our own R12 Praise Team!
  • Praying for one another.
  • Working together in service for those with needs, using our hands and our minds!
  • Having fun in play: Golfing, Fishing, Shooting, Gaming, Building, Camping, Smoking Cigars, Boating and much more!
